I've neglected my blog recently.
I've neglected my friends blog recently.
Sorry about that.
That should change in a few days.
My daughter is getting married Friday evening.
HOLY CRAP!!!

I've been working on my speech.
Research shows the best length of a Father of the Bride speech should be 7 minutes.
After that, they say, you start to loose your audience.

My first draft was 36 minutes long.
A bit wordy.
My 20th draft has it down to 13 minutes.
I mentioned my new and improved length to the bride yesterday.
"That's a little long Dad," she commented.

Back to the editing room I go.

Happy almost father of the bride day! I was waiting for some last minute wedding planner tips :) I've maybe missed a few! Enjoy the whirlwind of the week and soak in all those big and little moments! Congrats Dad!

Mark, I've intended to swoop by to say hello since your kind comment on my mothers day post (thank you).

As you see, I'm behind in my swooping (and I have no one getting married, no speech to write). Apparently I'm just not maintaining full speed swooping status of late, lol.

Loved your tips for planning weddings and now, informational guildelines for the FOTB speech.
(who knew there were guidelines?!) Tho longer than 7 minutes yours may be, how great it is that you have 13 (or 36) minutes of words about and for your daughter on her wedding day.

Bravo and I say ramble at will!
I suspect when it's all said and done - literally - she'll love and remember it fondly (always)

Happy almost a father in law & congrats to the mother of the bride, the bride and oh yes, the groom!

Can't wait to hear the speech! FYI, my attention span is much less than 7 minutes.

We're leaving nice and early Friday so we make it in time. If we hit traffic, I'm sure you plan to hold the wedding til I make it. ;)
hehe, jk!

One of my favorite movies was "Father of the Bride" with Steve Martin. Congrats on your growing family. I'm sure you will hold it together and do a great job. We can't wait to hear all about it. Debi

Have a WONDERFUL WEDDING DAY!!

13 minutes sounds perfect. That gives you 6 1/2 minutes of wonderfully rehearsed speech, just before you start crying and have to sit down...

:) I hope everything goes well - best wishes to the bride and groom!

congratulations to the "almost" new bride and her hubby. i hope her intended realizes what a great father-in-law he's gaining in this arrangement.

i mean he might think the things they registered for are kind of cool, but a fancy blender and a coffee maker have NOTHING on you !!

i can't wait to see your photos, after all is said and done...i bet if you have time to take some {depending on how long your speech is] they will be fabulous and put a tear in your eye years from now when you look back on them.....

my dad, with 3 girls and no boys, always wore his dress cowboy boots with his tux, when we got married and always shed a few tears at some point even though he was thrilled to finally be getting some boys in the family !!

Congratulations to your daughter and new son-in-law. What a happy day! Daughters are pretty amazing, huh? And I think you should post your speech here on your blog so we can all drink a toast to the bride and groom!
