My bird friend.

For the past 2 1/2 weeks that we've been anchored,
this little guy has lived with us here on the boat.

He has been seen everywhere. On the bow, on the stern, and on top of the wheelhouse.
One day he was dive bombing us in the laundry room, but then he made his way back outside
where we've seen him off and on.

Last night around 1am, I walked outside and almost stepped on the little guy as he sat
on the step outside the back door.
A closer look and I realized he was sleeping.

He was all crunched up in a cute little ball, protecting himself from the wind.
I wanted to scoop him up and bring him inside, it was a little chilly last night by Texas standards, but I didn't want to give him a heart attack as these big human hands grabbed him.

Instead, I went to the galley and grabbed a piece of bread, and broke off tiny little pieces
and put them in a pile next to him.
We all wake up sometimes and want a snack, right?

A few hours after I saw him, the boat moved from Galveston to Texas City, just a few hours ride up the river.
As we now sit at the dock, I've made frequent rounds of the boat,
looking for my furry friend. I haven't seen him yet.

Did he jump ship when we pulled anchor?
Did he abandon us for a bigger more spacious boat that was in that same anchorage?

I'll keep looking, just in case.
Hopefully he's ok.

He probably went to tell some friends where they could get a good meal on a boat.

You, My Friend, have some of the same stuff in you that St. Francis had in him. I'll bet the little bird finds you again... or maybe sends one of his friends.

What a totally sweet story!

I could picture a dog or cat "adopting" a boat, but a bird???

It will be interesting to see if he/she returns when your boat does.

P.S. My word verification was pallyz. Coincidence?

That looks like a goldfinch. Kinda weird that it would hang out on a boat... and really very endearing that you would take care of him :-)

oh, that is so sweet! we raised two baby robins once, and were told by our vet to feed them water-logged cat food! the little doughnut-like shapes broke down into pieces and they slurped them in like worms! soon we had robins flying around our house and pooping on keyboards. ;o)

hope he stays safe!

Love this post and what a sweet little one. I think you will see him again one day when you come back his way.
