Today on the boat,
was a day when I had to do one of those chores
that I hate.
Laundry.
I threw my cloths in the washer at about 3pm
and when I went back to throw them in the dryer a few hours later,
they weren't there.
When I went to my room,
this is what I saw...
( no, I don't seperate colors, I'm a guy.)
....my cloths neatly folded on my chair,
and like most high dollar hotels do,
a treat was sitting on top.
This is the work of my captain.
You see, he puts the candy on top as a bit of sarcasm,
as if to say,
"What am I, your maid?"
I always thank him for folding and delivering my cloths,
and this gives him the opportunity to go through his usual "bit",
"I'm the captain on here, why am I folding cloths? People should be folding my cloths.
I get no respect on here," he says as if I've never heard this act before.
Smiling, I respond,
"I appreciate it, but you don't have to fold them, just take them out
of the dryer and dump them in a pile if they're in the way. I forgot all about them."
When you live on a boat with people 180 days out of the year,
you get to know there habits pretty well.
I also know for a fact that the captain,
doesn't go more than 2 days in a row without doing a load of laundry.
So, I was pretty sure today
when I threw my cloths in the washer,
that the captain would be throwing his cloths in about 5PM
right before he went on watch.
I also knew he would fold and deliver my cloths
to my room, complete with a sarcastic sweet on top.
I also knew I was going to hear his "bit" again.
And that's ok.
I've been hearing that "bit" for about 3 years.

Love his response for doing the good deed for you. We could tell him he was "sweet", but not sure that would be what he would want to hear.
I love your everyday stories! Such sense of humor and camaraderie! This put a big smile on my face :-)
He sounds like a good guy and he has a twisted sense of humor, which I really like!
That's very thoughtful of him. It sounds as though he enjoys doing laundry, so why not just let him do it?
