Morgan Freeman?

Morgan Freeman is one of the greatest actors of my generation. I don't think you can argue that. Mr. Freeman's face has been on my computer so much lately I'm beginning to think he is rooming with me. He is incensed over the recent events in Newtown Connecticut, as he should be and blames the media for sensationalizing these murders. In his mind, the killer did what he did because he knew he would be front page news, and the killer wanted to go out as a "somebody." He asks, "Why is the killers name and picture all over CNN and Fox News, where are the names and pictures of the victims?"

The answer to that, Morgan, is, THE POLICE DID NOT WANT TO RELEASE THAT INFORMATION YET. I feel awful that you didn't get to read the gory details in a timely manner. But, Morgan, today is your lucky day. There is a list on CNN, of every person that was killed, their names and ages, and other info about each one. I'm not sure what info was there because I am just not strong enough to sit in my room and read about every teacher and little child that was murdered. I started to scroll, but had to stop. Sorry. But, the list is there Morgan, happy reading.

Yes the news media is over the top everytime something like this happens. What bothers me most is the race to get the story out first which often leads to misinformation, but is that the reason this happened? I disagree. We all want to figure out why? We all want someone to blame. For sure, a story like this does not have but one cause. Maybe we'll never know "the reason" but I would think it is safe to say that there were probably many factors that caused this kid to dress up in army gear and take the lives of those who haven't even really begun to live, and devastate a town.

I don't know if the media is to blame. I don't know if it's our questionable mental health programs. I don't know if the school prayer thing played a part. I don't know if he was picked on as a little kid or never got over the fact that he didn't make the high school football team. What ever the reason, one thing is for certain. The chain of events ended with a murderer pointing a gun, a gun that was bought legally by his mother in a state that boasts of tough gun laws, and he pulled the trigger over and over again. And what is mom doing collecting a closet full of military weapons? My Mom collected Hummels.

If he had attacked with a rolled up news paper, a news microphone or a religious figurine, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been as deadly as the Glock he used, which is the same gun used by the military and police agencies of roughly 40 other nations.
Morgan Freeman, don't tell me that the NRA and there strong lobby had nothing to do with this.

Hopefully something good comes out of this down the road. If you want to champion a cause muting the media, or you want to make changes to our mental health care system, or bullying, I applaud and support your fight for change.

But I'm certain our almost  non-existent gun laws played a part. That's the fight I'll join.

Good luck to anyone fighting the other fights. I hope you win too.

every gop senator was asked to appear on meet the press today to talk about gun control, and not one of them accepted. not ONE. they know what side their bread is buttered on.

Actually... Morgan Freeman has not spoken out about this incident.. he has since put out a press release stating he is not responsible for that blurb, although I stood by what i thought he said. I love the man, you're right.. he's one of our generations best actors and humanitarians.

Did you watch the President speak at the vigil tonight? Well said, Mr. President. Now lets see if you'll get the cooperation you need to get something done. Doubtful.

I do agree with Morgan Freeman that many (especially with mental illness) want to notoriety from the killings, even in death. Something needs to be done about mental illness and gun control in this country.

Sometimes "Shit Happens" seems to be a reasonable response to random misfortune... Not this time. This time the NRA surely must hold up a mirror to itself and take some responsibility for this tragedy. Some of this shit, perhaps not all of it, but at least some of it can be prevented by enacting gun control laws that are working effectively in our cousin countries all over the world. How much longer will we allow the NRA to make us a rogue nation.

I must admit, when I read the "Morgan Freeman" thing I was like, "Huh?" Now Karen states it wasn't him. I hope not. I just want to know why ANY one other than law enforcement or military would need an assault weapon. How does ANY human argue that point? This is a twisted HORRIBLE thing that has happened. There will never be closure. I fear that our completely broken system in this country will just stall on this issue forever like they stall on everything else. I can't help but feel so helpless and so hopeless. So I will wrap my family into my own little world and pray no crazy gets in. I can't even begin to tell you how angry I am.

This morning, Morgan Freeman said this was a hoax and he hadn't written it.
