The 4th

I spent this 4th of July on the boat,
in the Corpus Christi Texas area.

And as is the norm for people who live
near the water,
many folks headed for the playground of their choosing.

 The beautiful sunny day
had everyone out and about.

The courageous....

the crazy.....

( never cut in front of an 8000 Horse power tug with a sailboat)

and the unlucky.

At one point during my people watching,
I noticed my friends coming over to play.....

and play, they did!!

This beauties spent so much time up on the bow with me
that when they finally left
I turned and looked at the wheelhouse windows, and said,
WOW!

What a great display they put on for me.

As I was waiting for these photos to upload while writing this post,
I strolled outside just in time to see a great Corpus Christi fireworks display.

We are presently anchored about 3 miles off the coast
as we await our berth
and as I looked at the shoreline I could see the fireworks celebrations of many
of the coastal towns.

Without turning my head
I could see 5 or 6 other towns celebrating this nations Independence.
But the town closest to where we are
put on an amazing show.

The boat was gently bobbing up and down in the offshore swell,
with a gentle breeze at my back
as I watched this awesome fireworks show,
in solitude.

I had recently read the book titled 1776
by David McCullouch
where he interestingly tells the story of how we became Independent.
As I watched the water surface between our boat and the shoreline
shimmer with the reflections of the explosions in the sky,
I couldn't help but think of brave men who changed the course of history way back when.

John Adams, one of the Founding Fathers wrote of this day,
"......I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding generations
.....it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, bonfires and illuminations
from one end of this continent to the other,
from this time forward, forever more."

I think the towns in southern Texas did Mr. Adams proud today.

Mark, what an amazing capture, what a sight!.. these dolphins at play right in front of you. You did a great job with the camera. I've never seen dolphins so up close in the wild, just beautiful.

Love the sentiment here, wish he could see for himself how grand the celebrations are indeed.

Great eye, there Mark! I liked how you put it all together! And the dolphins are amazing. It must have been very cool seeing all those firework displays at once. Our forefather really saw the future! Uncanny...

What a show indeed- in fact I would be more impressed by the dolphins than by any fireworks, but it must have been fun to watch from the water! Nice shots!

Nice of your friends to come hang out. I bet your vantage for the fireworks was pretty amazing. Nice quote from John Adams, he was able to predict the future.

What a show with dolphins performing and fireworks from several places. Now I must say that is the way to celebrate.
