Pulling the Plug

Many of us have been faced with the unpleasant task of deciding
when enough is enough.
I think it's one of life's true hurdles.
To experience it, you grow as a person.

When is it the right time?

Family meetings prove only one thing,
that everyone has a different opinion.

Many of us procrastinate for selfish reasons.
It's hard to let go, the feelings run too deep.

Yesterday we made, as a family, a very difficult decision.
This morning, while sitting on my sun drenched deck talking to my daughter on the phone,
she asked if I could possibly take one more picture, for posterity before pulling the plug.
I assured her I would.
She was beaten down by life and it showed.
It was time.

Below is the photo I took.

Mt daughter loved this car.
A friend sold it to her a few years ago for $1.
I think she was over charged.
Other than the 3 rips in the soft top, the bad alternator, leaking gas lines and brake lines that are very questionable, she's a real beauty.
Before deciding to donate it, we offered 3 people the car for 100 dollars.

They all laughed.

Really loud.
This beauty will be donated to a charity of my daughters choice.
Yes, they do take cars in bad shape.

LOL....and her new car ?
there is a new car, right ? or did she give up after she kept getting robbed and is now taking public transportation ?

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. That's the poor car that has put up with all the stabbings, no? I would say it lived a good long life.
Hope the new one brings better luck.

Most of us can relate to the confusion and reluctance of letting go of a first love. Mine was a Forty-two chevrolet coupe that my Father warned me about before I bought it... for more than a dollar, but it couldn't have been much more. I have some pictures of it somewhere. I'm glad your daughter has pictures. Pictures of loves, current AND departed, are comforting.

By the way, I especially like your putting the story of the car into a poem. Wonderful!

Ha! Now that is some car for sure! Poor thing. Glad you decided, as a family, to put it out of it's misery! I am sure the new owners will take good care of her.

And I thought the pinto I had that blew up if you hit it in the rear and you could see the street under the gas pedal was bad. :-)
