Etouffee


In the past I have written about eating Etouffee, the southern dish most popular in the New Orleans area of the U.S.
I can tell you this. It certainly is not popular in the Philadelphia area. There aren't a lot of craw fish shacks up my way.

I've had this dish once before while on the boat in Fouchon, LA. It seems crawfish are easy to come by down there. But one mistake was made, claims born and bred southerner and blogger buddy Diane, we had the gall to use a Etouffee mix, FROM A BOX.
I found out that's a big no-no in bayou country. Diane is not bashful.

But let it be said, today I had the real thing. Our Mate on the boat is from Mississippi. He's been making Etouffee all his life, so he claims. Today, he gathered together some shrimp, crawfish, rice and whatever else goes into this dish, and whipped us up a beautiful Etouffee meal. There wasn't a Etouffee mix box anywhere to be seen.
They say New Orleans is known for their music and their food.
There is a reason for that.

The photo I took of my creole dish would have been sitting right here if Blogger would,ve cooperated and let me up load a photo. But it didn't. maybe tomorrow.

Etouffee! Hurray! Glad you got the real deal! Makes me want to head to Louisiana, now...

And hey - you might want to start moderating your comments, man...John Rambo there has some issues.

I think I know what Rambo's problem is. He needs a good plate of étouffée. On the other hand, maybe that's not it at all. He needs a good talk with Miss Nonnie Bowman, who was my seventh grade teacher... which makes me wonder if she's still alive. I'll do the math.

Please describe the taste of Etouffee. Lousianna has such different spices for their foods. Would really like to see that photo.
