R.I.P. Joe Paterno

Joe Paterno passed away the other day.
I feel bad for Paterno's wife Sue and his children.
Having experienced the loss of my parents, I can say unequivocally, it sucks.

The difference is, when my dad died he wasn't smack in the middle of a very disturbing scandal.
Joe was.

His former players have his back and that's somewhat understandable.
The anger is evident.
One former quarterback blames the media for his death.
The people of "Happy Valley" are beside themselves, still blaming others for Joe's shortcomings.
People are coming out of the wood work singing Joe's praise.
(Shhh. Don't mention the scandal.)
There is no shortage of people wagging their fingers and yelling.

But for Congress to fly the flag at half mast?????
President Obama called????
If there is a riderless horse pulling a carriage at the funeral, I'm going to loose my mind.

I wonder what that kid who was in the showers thinks?

Joe Paterno has been judged by everyone with an opinion for the last few months.

Joe Paterno is now with the only judge that really matters.

Joe was dying scandal or not...lung cancer from years of smoking perhaps?? The media didn't kill him but will he be judged in the end you bet...! I hope PA doesn't try to slip in a Joe Paterno holiday or anything like that!

They say peoples emotions help decide how quickly one dies, Im thinking Joe was feeling a little bad on the inside. Im also sorry for his family, but not as sorry as I feel for the kids in this scandal. Great post, and amen to the Judge of Judges!

Tell me again what he did that chokes everybody up when he died at four score and five years... Did they expect him to live forever? Was he really a national treasure, a hero, a pathfinder to the nation? I like sports, too... almost all sports... but when any sports leader can accept lightly and tuck away silently the information that any sportsman or any other man or woman has sexually molested a child, all honor for any achievements, real or imagined is wiped away.
