"On my honor I will do my best.........."

The Boy Scouts of America are finally stepping into the modern world, and toying with the idea of doing away with it's present policy against openly gay members.
That's a big boy!
Don't get carried away yet. Actually the quote is they are "potentially discussing" doing away with ......

So, maybe they'll talk about it? Wow, that's real decisiveness.

Speaking of the scouts, I was a proud member of the Boy Scouts when I was young. I made it to the "Tenderfoot" stage. That's really not much of an accomplishment because they slap you with the "Tenderfoot" title the second you walk through the door and  recite the Boy Scout pledge.

My Mom was against me entering the Scouting fraternity. She had nothing against the Scouts, she just knew me better than I knew myself and was convinced I would loose interest by the time my parents spent the money for the uniform and everything that went with it. I convinced them I was in this for the long haul.
They bought me the new uniform, with the scarf thingy and the cool belt.

I quit scouting about 2 months later. Mom was right again.

Seriously, I have always had a lot of respect for the kids who become Eagle Scouts. That is quite an accomplishment. They don't hand those badges out to just anyone.

I was working for this insurance company part time many years ago, and the head of our office was recruiting different people. He put an extraordinary amount of time and energy trying to get this one young man to sign up. One day I asked him about this, and he said, "he mentioned to me he was an Eagle Scout. I want someone like him in my office."

The Captain of my boat is an Eagle Scout. I Googled famous Eagle Scouts:

President Ford
Michael Bloomberg, NYC mayor.
Donald Rumsfield, former Sec of Defense.
Stephan Spielberg
and 37 astonauts, including Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon
and many others.

A bit of sad news........Sarah Palin has been dropped as a commentator for Fox News.
Jeez, even Fox news realizes her 15 minutes of fame are now over.
She will be missed by the Blog world.

I was a girlscout for three weeks. You put in more time than I! I just couldn't get past the badges, the sashes and the cookie selling. I have nothing against the girl and boyscouts of America..I just knew I wasn't gonna fit that mold.

Mark, we may have talked about this already, so forgive me.. but have you seen the movie Game Change?... Woooooooooooow. wow. It was worse than we thought.. you can't make that stuff up. I actually felt sorry for her by the end of that movie. Wow.

We can only hope she will go quietly and without fanfare. Not holding my breath.
