Grandpops hat

If I look to the right as I sit at my desk at home, I can see my Grandfathers hat.
Grandpop, as he was called, has been gone for so long, I dont even remember the year he passed away. I'm guessing I was still in grade school, maybe 1966ish. I guess I should know this, but I don't.
Anyway, I came across this great treasure while cleaning out my moms house after she passed away.
(I swear this post isn't supposed to be sad, with all this talk of people passing away.)
When I think of Grandpop, the vision that pops into my head is of him, wearing this hat. He always wore a hat. spring, Summer, Fall or Winter, he wore a hat.
I was particularly close to Grandpop because after my Grandmother died, (there I go again), grandpop came to our house to live. I can see him now walking in our front door. he would take off his coat, stick out his arm and dip his head so his hat, the hat I have next to my desk today, would roll down his arm and he would deftly catch it in his hand. As a little kid I got the biggest kick out of that. Of course everytime he did this I would get up and give the same trick a try.
By the time I was 8 years old, I could do it with my eyes closed.
The other day, I noticed the hat. I picked it up and put it on my head, dipped low and the hat rolled down my arm and I caught it, just like Grandpop showed me 40 some years ago.
How great is it that my mom kept his hat all these years.

What a lovely, loving story!! You are so lucky to have such a special memento from your grandfather: something he actually wore that you remember him wearing! I'll bet he beams a warm smile down on you every time you do the hat trick. . .;-)
