To the Gulf

After being anchored for a week, we were quite pleased to hear we were heading to Louisiana from our present location in New York.
The company that hired us for this particular job,(we don't know what it is) is BP, the owner of the busted up oil well in the Gulf.
Are we going to help in the cleanup somehow?
We don't know yet, but we were told to head south.
First I had to give the barge some fuel, because the 2 guys living on it as we tow it behind us for the next week, need the fuel to run their generators.
I gave them 8000 gallons of the stuff.(Pictured above.)

Then we headed to the city so we could go shopping for groceries, fill the tug up with drinking water, and most important, fill the tug with fuel.

As you can see, a back up at the pump. We had to wait our turn to get fuel.
It's first come first serve, just like your gas station.
2 other tugs were doing the same thing.
I loaded 30,000 gal of fuel, we now have 110,000 gals on board.

At 9 am the next day, we were ready to go and headed to sea.

I'll give updates of our week long trip

Best of luck to you. Horrible mess, so good of you to be part of the solution (if there is a possible solution *sigh*)

Your photos are wonderful.. I grew up on Staten Island and my father was a live aboard, Albin trawler. Spent many hours on the water there, it's a fascinating harbor, if not sometimes insane.

I'll follow along, take care! -

Wishing you good luck - perhaps you can fix what's broken down there (or at least make a big dent in the mess). Will be looking forward to reading your future posts and seeing the images.
